LUXES (pronounced Lux-sees)
LUXES bracelet is an innovative, durable ultraviolet radiation monitor to indicate your UV exposure and help you prevent sun burn, wrinkles and skin cancer.
With friends and family touched by skin cancer, our founders understand the importance of sun safety and over exposure of invisible UV radiation can cause sun burn and damage our DNA. LUXES bracelet is designed to help everyone take control of their UV radiation exposure, and it aims to bring awareness to people who aren’t properly informed about the damage UV ray can do.
LUXES consists of a bracelet and UV activated insert. Luxes uses a proprietary smart material to create the UV activated insert. The silicone rubber based smart material will darken in color when exposed to UV ray to simulate human skin reaction to UV radiation. The color changing action is reversible when the smart material is removed from the UV source. Users can apply a small amount of sun screen on top of Luxes’s UV activated insert to track the effectiveness of the sunscreen. The sunscreen will block the UV rays and keep the UV activated insert from changing color. When the sunscreen naturally breaks down by the UV rays, the color will slowly begin to darken to alert users to reapply sun screen.
When looking at the Luxes logo, you will see the word “LOVE” (LUVES). Inventor, Gary Wong, designed the logo to pay homage to friends and family members who continue the fight against skin cancer. When looking at the U and the top part of the X in the name Luxes, it spells out UV, which is what everyone needs to be aware of. Lux (symbol: lx) is a SI unit of both illuminance (Ev) and luminous emittance (Mv), which measure luminous flux per unit area.
